Greenwich, Residence

Greenwich is a four bedroom single residence located on a corner site in Greenwich, Sydney.

The site is a rectangular corner site located on a busy road with two streetscape frontages and two boundaries shared with single residences.

The built form is elevated from the street with a single double car garage below accessed via the secondary street.  This allowed the building to separate itself from the streetscape vertically increasing privacy and views.  We then surrounded the built form with landscape to both seperate the built form further from the streetscape while also providing a green appearance within the streetscape.

The ground level is organised by a centrally located entry, circulation space and staircase running north south.  On one side is the primary double height living space, dining area and bar that has orientation towards both the northern rear landscaped garden and pool and to the southern secondary streetscape.  On the other side is the Kitchen, Butlers, Laundry, powder and secondary living space.  Then Kitchen is oriented towards the North and connects with the external landscaped space that includes a pool and external dining courtyard space.  The secondary living space is located on the on the south/west corner with views to landscape with the laundry and powder and butters separating the two spaces.

Level 01 includes four bedrooms and bathrooms including the master bedroom and ensuite.  The two primary rooms and ensuites are located on the corners to maximise views and solar access with the two bedrooms and bathroom in-between.  The central circulation system separates the bedrooms from the void to the double height primary living space.

The Design of the facade was to maximise views, light and ventilation to the landscape and surrounding context while managing privacy to the busy primary road.  The design adopted a concrete grid that would organise both the planning, frame views and filter the inside and outside environments. Within the grid glazing was located where appropriate for connection between inside and outside and brick is used where privacy is required.
